Phyllis E. Smith, 77, of Bellevue Nebraska formerly of DuBois, Nebraska passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Clarkson UNMC, Omaha, Nebraska with her family by her bedside. She was born on August 23, 1946 to Owen and Fern (Yoble) Andrews in Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Phyllis started school in Du-Bois, then finished high school in Humboldt, Nebraska in 1964. Her first job out of high school was at State Farm in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Phyllis married Charles Young in 1968, they had one son Corey born on September 15, 1969.

Phyllis married Dennis Shaffer in 1972. They moved to Tecumseh in 1980 and bought/ ran the Liquor store on the town square until 1987. She owned the building till 1989.

Phyllis moved to Bellevue in 1988 Phyllis married Carl Smith in October of 1988. Phyllis and Carl moved to DuBois in1991. Phyllis kept busy with part time jobs at, NCTC in Seneca, Kansas, McDonalds in Seneca, worked for the Village of DuBois, Nebraska and Office Manager at Chris Gottula Plumbing business.

She was a life-long member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39, plus she was President for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Fern Andrews, brothers, Jerald Andrews, Harold Andrews, husband, Carl Smith, granddaughters, Kaeliauna Young, Jennifer Shaffer, McKenzie Horton, son, Mike Shaffer She is survived by her son Corey (Virginia) Young of Talmage, NE, daughter in law, Mick Shaffer of Louisville, TX, son, Steve (Laura) Shaffer of Alvord, TX, sister, Kathy Cavric of Bellevue, NE, daughter, Kimberly (Tony) Gross of Caraway, AK, son Mike Smith of Camp, AK, Grand Children, Ashlynn Young, Christina Young, Joshua Young, Carrie Young, Brianna Young, Jonathan Young, Aleciauna Young, Kaitlin Young, Mike Shaffer, John(Rebecca) Shaffer, Samone (Kyle) Fiddes Lionel Shaffer, Kara (Scotty) Moore, Katie Gross, Steven Smith, Hillary (Howard) Horton, Abbie Allen, Breezey Allen, David Allen, Genevie Allen, Stefón Brown, Great Grandkids, Kaelynn Young, Neveah Tryon, Andrew David Shaffer, Nadine Fiddes, Lyndsey Smith, Abby Horton, Lilly Nelson, Spencer Longwell, Roman Allen, and many many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorial service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in DuBois, Nebraska, Pastor Lauri Beach officiating. Visitation on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
