HTRS Titans shut down Sterling in second...

STERLING - After weathering a first half scoring barrage, the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Titans played staunch defense in the second half against Sterling on Friday, January 4th and came away with a 55-41 victory over their hosts.

Sterling jumped out to an early lead, but HTRS’ Conner Bredemeier kept the Titans in the game with two buckets in the paint. Hunter Hain drove insde for two more baskets for the Titans to keep it an 8-11 game early on.

The Jets fired back with a three-point play, but Bredemeier added a freethrow and Gage Schaardt scored on a rebound and putback. Isaiah Lockard hit a trey before the end of the quarter, but the Titans trailed 14-18.

Lady Titans can’t sustain offense agains...

STERLING, HUMBOLDT - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans had a hard time keeping up their scoring against both Sterling and Omaha Brownell-Talbot over the weekend.

HTRS vs. Sterling

The Lady Titans traveled to Sterling on Friday, January 4th to take on the Lady Jets.

Bella Vasco put HTRS on the board to open the game with two freethrows while Katilyn Glathar hit two buckets for the Lady Titans. Sterling used some big rebounds and a trey before the buzzer however to go up 12-6.

LHS Tigers can't cut into Meridian's lead

LEWISTON - Every time the Lewiston Tigers seemed to get close enough to cut into Meridian's lead, the Mustangs would go on another mini-run to thwart their attempts on Tuesday, December 18th.

The Tigers hosted Meridian on Tuesday before the holiday break and were playing without inside threat, Ryan Hunt. The Mustangs took advantage of that as they hit the boards hard and scored off of Lewiston turnovers throughout the game to win by a 67-47 count.

Meridian opened up the game on a 9-0 run as Lewiston suffered several misses and turnovers in the opening minutes. Jon Janssen collected 3 quick fouls which didnt help and he had to leave the game with four minutes still left.

Lewiston Lady Tigers fall behind Meridian in first half

LEWISTON - The Lewiston Lady Tigers hosted the Meridian Mustangs on Tuesday, December 18th, but had a tough first half of action which led to their 24-50 loss.

Lewiston trailed 7-13 after the 1st period and then got down 10-26 heading into the halftime break.

Lady Tiger turnovers and Meridian's slight height advantage gave Lewiston more fits in the 3rd period as they went through a seven minute scoring drought.

Pawnee City doesn't have answer for Sterling Jets' quick offense

STERLING - The Pawnee City Indians hung tough early in the 1st period, but the Sterling Jets' offense soon surged for a big lead in action on Friday night, December 14th.

Sterling jumped out to a 4-1 lead with Mason Lierz hitting the lone freethrow for P.C., but P.C.'s Shamar Willey scored on a 3-point play to tie the game at 4-4.

After that, it was all Sterling as they build a 15-4 advantage off of fast break drives, rebounds and a trey. Willey finally broke the slump with a bucket down low then Sabian Adams added another bucket in the paint to make it 8-15.

Lower scoring takes Lady Indians out of games

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Lady Indians were in action this week against Nebraska City Lourdes Central Catholic and Sterling, but lost both of their contests.

The Lady Indians began their week on Tuesday, December 11th against the Nebraska City Lourdes Central Catholic Lady Knights. They only trailed the Lady Knights 12-16 after the 1st period of play, but gave up an 18-7 second quarter scoring barrage and trailed 19-34 at the halftime break. NCL scored 27 more points in the second half while holding them to just 13 and they lost by a 32-61 score.

Miranda Branek led all scorers with 12 points and had 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. Becca Martin hit 3 treys for 9 points and had 1 rebound and 1 steal. Krista Menninga added 4 points and led in steals with 4 while Austin Branch had 4 assists.

HTRS/P.C. wrestling team finishes 9th at JCC Invite

COOK - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer/Pawnee City Titan wrestling team traveled to the Johnson County Central Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday, December 15th where they placed 9th overall with 42 team points.

Top individual performances for the day included Wyatt Schmit as champion in the 120 lb. division; Aiden Worthey with a bronze medal for 3rd place at 195 lbs.and Quirin Stecher with a 4th place finish at 170 lbs. All results are as follows. Team Scoring: Johnson County Central 169.0; Sutton 144.0; Mount Michael 136.0; Southwest Iowa 98.5; Freeman 80.0; Tarkio 76.0; Lincoln Christian 67.0; Palmyra 54.5; Humboldt-Table Rock/Steinauer/Pawnee City 42.0; Dorchester 30.0; Lincoln Lutheran 30.0; Red Cloud/Blue Hill 17.0; Parkview Christian 1.0.

NCL hits boards hard against HTRS

HUMBOLDT - Scoring droughts and missed rebounds hampered the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans in their game against Nebraska City Lourdes Central Catholic on Friday night, December 7th.

Lourdes CC held a 14-10 lead after the first period and were up 18-12 part way through the 2nd period when they started to collect points off of HTRS turnovers on the press. After several freethrows and fast break buckets, the Lady Knights had built a 28-12 lead over the Lady Titans.

Mattie Stalder finally broke the slump with a freethrow at the 2:09 mark and then she scored on a rebound and putback. Peyton Schaardt added a jumper up top with under a minute to go and then Delayne Schuster hit a trey at the 22 second mark. That made it 20-30. Lourdes CC scored on a final bucket before the half to go up 32-20.

Titans pull out thrilling victory

HUMBOLDT - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Titans claimed an exciting win over the Nebraska City Lourdes Central Catholic Knights on Friday, December 7th.

The Titans were in a dog-fight the entire night against NCL as they were tied with them at 10-10 in the first period after a driving bucket by Conner Bredemeier, two treys from Isaiah Lockard and two freethrows from Hunter Hain. NCL finished the 1st period with a trey however to take a 13-10 lead.

Caleb Tackett scored on an inbounds play to open the 2nd period and then Nic Knudson knocked down a long range trey. Hain drove to the bucket for a 17-15 HTRS lead.

P.C. can't weather scoring drought

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Lady Indians had a good start to their game against Diller/Odell on Parent's Night, Thursday, November 29th, but couldn't finish in the second half. A long nine-minute scoring drought hampered their chances of getting a victory.

P.C. led early in the game at 13-9 in the 2nd quarter as Krista Menniga scored a freethrow and then Madison Branek connected from up top for a 16-14 lead.

Branek traded buckets with D/O once again and then Reagan deKoning hit two freethrows with under a minute left in the half to make it 20-18.
