P.C. boys fall to D/O, defeat Friend in Pioneer consolation

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Indians had their ups and downs at the Pioneer Conference Basketball Tournament last week as they went 1-1 in their two games.

Pawnee City vs. Diller/Odell

On Monday, January 28th, the #10 seeded Indians faced the #7 seeded Diller/Odell Griffins in the first round of the Pioneer Tournament and lost by a 35-50 score.

TJ Mawhiney led all Indian scorers with 12 points and had 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Theo Lilleheim followed with 10 points and had two treys, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Mason Lierz contributed 6 points off of two treys and had 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

Pawnee City vs. Friend

In consolation play on Friday, February 1st, the Pawnee City Indians went up against the #11 seeded Friend Bulldogs and controlled the game from start to finish.

HTRS, P.C. girls meet in 1st round of Pioneer

HUMBOLDT - The first round of the 2019 Pioneer Conference Basketball Tournament pit the #8 seeded Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans against the #9 seeded Pawnee City Lady Indians on Monday night, January 28th. The game was low-scoring for both teams as the Lady Titans only shot 29% from the field and the Lady Indians only 20% from the field. HTRS was also 6/14 from the freethrow line while P.C. was 0/4.

Pawnee City led 9-7 after the 1st period, but HTRS took a 13-12 lead at the half. HTRS outscored the Lady Indians 11-4 in the 3rd period to go ahead 24-16. P.C. went on an 8-3 run in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough as HTRS won the game by a 27-24 score.

Jennabella Vasco and Katilyn Glathar led the Lady Titans with 7 points each. Vasco also had 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists while Glathar had 13 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 1 assist. Natalie Novak pitched in 6 points with 2 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block.

Second quarter scoring hurts P.C. girls against J-B

PAWNEE CITY - The second quarter was where the Pawnee City Lady Indians lost their battle with the visiting Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles on Friday night, January 25th. Pawnee City only trailed 6-9 after the 1st quarter, but then Johnson-Brock went on a 19-8 run in the 2nd period to carry a 28-14 lead into the half. The Lady Eagles also outscored P.C. 16-8 in the 3rd period and 16-11 in the final quarter to get the 60-33 win. Krista Menninga topped out in scoring for P.C. with 12 points and she had 2 treys, 1 assist and 1 steal. Reagan deKoning scored 7 points with 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal while Madison Branek tacked on 7 points, led in rebounds with 10 and had 2 assists and 2 blocks.

LHS can’t get past Jets on road

STERLING - The Lewiston Tigers had to face the Sterling Jets on their home court and on Parent’s Night on Friday, January 25th and couldn’t pull off a road win.

The Tigers had a very slow start to the game as they trailed 12-0 early in the 1st period and didn’t get on the board until the 3:08 mark when Levi Meybrunn hit a freethrow.

Meybrunn later added another charity toss and Treyton Hippen swished two of his own, but the Tigers trailed 4-19 at the end of the 1st period.

Hayden Christen got in on the action with a jumper in the 2nd period, but the Jets continued their offensive onslaught.

Pawnee City hosts hotshooting Johnson-Brock

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Indians hosted a very talented Johnson-Brock Eagles squad on Friday night, January 25th.

Johnson-Brock jumped out on the Indians 23-5 in the opening quarter and then increased their lead to 40-19 by the halftime break. The Eagles went on a 12-5 run in the 3rd period before closing out the 4th quarter 19-10 for the 71-34 victory.

Kodenn Koester led the Indians with 8 points including 2 treys and he had 6 rebounds and 1 steal. Theodor Lilleheim followed with 7 points with 1 trey and he had 2 rebounds and 2 assists. TJ Mawhiney pitched in 5 points with 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

Pawnee City Indians run into red hot FCSH Irish

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Indians hosted a very talented Falls City Sacred Heart Irish team on Thursday night, January 17th.

P.C. tried to hang with their guests in the opening period as Mason Lierz hit a trey early and Kaden Lang added a bucket to keep it a 5-5 game.

FCSH started to take control of the game after that as they went on a 7-0 run before TJ Mawhiney scored on a drive inside. Lierz picked up a steal and then Mawhiney scored on another strong move to the hoop to make it 9-16 at the end of the period.

Lady Indians have long scoring drought vs. FCSH

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Lady Indians had some scoring woes against the Falls City Sacred Heart Lady Irish on Thursday night, January 17th.

At one point in the 29-55 loss, the Lady Indians went through a ten minute scoring drought.

P.C. was tied with FCSH at 4-4 to open the game and Reagan deKoning added two freethrows to keep it 6-6.

HTRS boys wait to play Class B Championship

BEATRICE - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Titans were rolling through the boys’ Class B Mudecas Basketball Tournament last week when the inclimate weather postponed their championship game which was set for Saturday.

HTRS vs. Lewiston

The Titans went into the Class B Division as the #1 seed and took on the #8 seeded Lewiston Tigers in the first round on Tuesday, January 8th.

HTRS actually trailed Lewiston 11-15 after the 1st period and were down 30-32 at the half. But, the Titans went on a 19-9 run in the 3rd period and then closed out the game with a 61-54 victory.

Hunter Hain poured in 18 points in the win and had 10 rebounds for a double double along with 3 assists and 2 steals. Conner Bredemeier also had a double double with 13 points and 16 rebounds and had 3 steals and 1 assist.

BEATRICE - The Pawnee City Lady Indians were the #3 seed heading into the Class B Mudecas basketball tournament last week and lost one game and won one game.

Pawnee City vs. Palmyra

The Lady Indians faced tghe #6 seeded Palmyra Lady Panthers on Monday night, January 7th, but lost by a 22-30 score. Palmyra led 7-5 after the 1st period and then carried a 12-11 lead into the half. P.C. outscored the Lady Panthers 6-3 in the 3rd period, but Palmyra went on a huge 15-5 scoring run in the final quarter to claim the victory. Krista Menninga led all scorers with 7 points and had 1 trey, 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 rebound before fouling out of the game. Madison Branek also fouled out, but added 6 points with 1 trey and also had 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. Austin Branch tallied 6 points as well and had 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Reagan deKoning led in rebounds with 8 and had 2 assists and 2 steals.

HTRS Lady Titans claim 3rd place in Class B Mudecas

BEATRICE - The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans went into the Class B Mudecas basketball tournament as the #5 seed, but came home with the 3rd place hardware last week.

HTRS vs. JCC

The Lady Titans opened the tournament on Monday, January 7th against the Johnson County Central Lady Thunderbirds and used a strong second half to pull out a 58-46 win.

Katilyn Glathar powered the Lady Titans offense by scoring 31 points in the game. She also had 11 rebounds for a double double along with 2 steals, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Bella Vasco also hit double figures with 10 points and had 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.
