PAWNEE CITY - The morning session of the 2019 Pioneer Conference Track Meet was a little cool, but as the day progressed, the temperatures dropped and the north winds picked up to make a blustery day of competition on Saturday, April 27th. The Pawnee City girls placed 7th overall in team standings with 30 points followed by Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer in 9th place with 25 points and Lewiston in 10th place with 6 points. For the boys, Pawnee City placed 4th with 63.5 points and HTRS finished in 9th place with 6.5 points. Pawnee City’s Shamar Willey struck double gold in the 110 and 300 M. Hurdle events with his respective times of 21.0 and 43.33. Indian teammate Marcus Gray also claimed a gold medal in the boys’ Discus with his toss of 135’8”. Pawnee City’s Sierra deKoning had the best finish for the Lady Indians with a silver medal in the High Jump at 5’0”. HTRS’ Natalie Novak also claimed a silver medal for the Lady Titans in the Triple Jump with a leap of 31’11 3/4”.

PAWNEE CITY - The Pawnee City Indians will have a busy week at their track from Tuesday, April 23rd - Saturday, April 27th.

Pawnee City is hosting their own Invitational this Tuesday, April 23rd at the Pawnee City track and then will also host the 2019 Pioneer Conference Track Invitational this weekend on Saturday, April 27th.

The Pawnee City Invitational started very cool and breezy on Tuesday morning with the field events.

Treyton Hippen of the Lewiston FFA placed 3rd in the Small Animal Proficiency award at the Nebraska FFA Convention in Lincoln.

Dana Christen was the 8th high individual in the Senior Livestock Evaluation CDE held Friday April 5th at UNL's East Campus.

The theme for the 2019 Nebraska State FFA Convention was “Rise,” and Pawnee City FFA members did just that. The chapter brought home several awards earned competing against schools from all over the state and representing every class size.

Five students received the State FFA Degree, which is the highest level of achievement for high school FFA members: Eve Beethe, Skylar Clark, Austin Gyhra, Eliza Hunzeker, and Thomas Smyth. To receive the State FFA Degree, students must earn or productively invest at least $3,000 in a project outside of class time, complete at least 50 hours of community service, and have exemplary leadership in FFA activities.

KIRKMAN'S - Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer hosted their annual HTRS Invitational at the Kirkman's Lakeview Golf Course on Tuesday, April 9th with both the Titan team and the Pawnee City Indians in attendance.

The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds won the team championship with a score of 340. HTRS finished in 6th place with a score of 448.

HTRS' Jacob Joy turned in the best individual performance with a 5th place finish overall. Joy shot rounds of 40, 42 for an 82.

Teammates Andy Stalder and Hunter Frey followed in scoring as Stalder shot a 60, 57 for a 117 and Frey shot 64, 53 also for 117. Joe Snethen recorded rounds of 67, 65 for a 132.

SENECA, KS. - The Pawnee City Indians participated in the Nemaha Central Track meet across the state border on Tuesday, April 9th. The Pawnee City boys had a stellar day as they finished in 2nd place overall with 114 total team points. The Pawnee City Lady Indians finished in 6th place wit 34 points. All results are as follows.

ADAMS - The Pawnee City, Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer and Lewiston track teams made the trip to Freeman on Saturday, April 13th for the 2019 Mudecas Track Meet. Conditions were dry, but windy and cooler for all three of our area track teams which made for a favorable day of competition.

The Pawnee City boys finished the highest in the team rankings with a 5th place finish and 74 points. The Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer boys took 10th place with 19 points and Lewiston finished 13th with 6 points.

For the girls, Pawnee City placed 8th with 39 points followed closely by Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer in 9th place with 32 points. Lewiston cored 1 point for 15th place. Pawnee City's Shamar Willey turned in the best individual performance for the Indians as he won both the 100 and 300 M. Hurdle events with his respective times of 16.46 and 42.56. HTRS' Caleb Tackett turned in the best performance for the Titans as he won the High Jump by clearing a height of 5'8".

TECUMSEH - The Pawnee City, Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer and Lewiston Junior High Track teams recently competed at the 2019 Mudecas Track Meet which was held in Tecumseh on Saturday, April 6th.

Although team standings weren’t available at the time of printing, the following individuals were medalists in their respective events. Eight places were awarded medals for the day and the results are as follows.

TECUMSEH - The Pawnee City, Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer and Lewiston track teams competed at the Johnson County Central Thunderbird Invitational on Monday, April 1st.

The Pawnee City boys placed 8th overall as a team with 39.33 points and were followed by HTRS in 11th place with 11.33 points. Girls’ team standings weren’t available at the time of printing.

Individually, medalists for the day included the following participants.

HTRS’ Natalie Novak with a bronze medal in the 100 meter hurdles clocked at 17.57 and in the Triple Jump with a silver medal at 31’1 1/2”.

HTRS’ Peyton Schaardt with a 6th place finish in the 300 m. hurdles with a time of 57.23. Pawnee City’s Sierra deKoning with a 6th place finish in the High Jump at 4’8”.

Coach Engles' season outlook: “This season we are looking forward to improving upon last year's efforts. Weatherwise, it was been a terrible season for track so far. We don't have an all-weather track so we haven't been able to do much outside. But, for both the boys and girls' teams we have a good mix of experienced athletes and younger kids. We have also worked really hard in the weight room this season. Individuals who will make an impact this season include Natalie Novak who was our leading scorer last season and she will again run the 100 hurdles along with competing in the triple and long jumps. Hunter Hain will lead our relayes and Cody Hazen will compete in the throwing events. Both of our teams are looking to improve from last season. The kids have all set individual goals to improve their best efforts from last year. We have a really tough Conference when it comes to track. We are looking forward to the competition against those schools the most.”
