Painting the Legacy of Nebraska is the theme of an art exhibition native Nebraskan Todd Williams is creating in conjunction with Nebraska’s Sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary celebration of statehood in 2017.Williams has been endorsed by Nebraska’s 150th Committee established by Governor Dave Heineman

Living History Days, remembering the past

TABLE ROCK – The Table Rock park was full of elementary students Friday as Living History Days unfolded. This is the 15th year and there were about 450 kids, parents, and teachers in the park seeing a wide variety of exhibits.
The day is organized by Falls City teacher Kim Vrtiska, son of Floyd, the former state senator.

Seitz leads local weight control group, meets Tuesdays at Pawnee City library

Pawnee City Public Library Director Lola Seitz said leading a weight control group is her way to help others. She leads Weigh 2 Go that meets Tuesday evenings at the library. Weigh-ins are from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a meeting between 5:30 to 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The group has about 8-10 regulars and it is not all women. At least one reporter is known to frequent the meetings

Lewiston’s LCS club teaches students how to lead

This is the fourth year Cydney Howell has been in the LCS club at Lewiston Consolidated School. She is a senior and will be graduating to go on to the Air National Guard, and then start working toward a medical degree. LCS stands for Leadership, Character, and Service. The club members do good works throughout the year, like run the three bloodmobiles that come to the school

Cockrell jailed for death of Amish youth in car-buggy accident

Vivian Cockrell was sentenced to 60 days in the Auburn jail and 36 months probation for causing the death of an Amish youth last July. She was sentenced in Pawnee County District Court Friday. Cockrell’s car collided with a buggy driven by Ruben Yoder, 17, who was killed, and passanger Fannie Yoder, his older sister, who was severely injured. Gage County District Judge Paul Korslund made the sentence after listening to Jennifer Stehlik Ladman for the state, Ben Beethe for the defense, and a plea from Cockrell herself for mercy

A 45-star United States flag

A U.S. flag with 45 stars is one of the things you can see at the Table Rock Historical Society’s open house Sunday Sept. 21. The open house will from 1 to 3 p.m. The 45 star flag became the U.S. Flag on July 4, 1896. A star had been added that January for Utah. Grover Cleveland was the first president to serve under the flag.

Relatives of log cabin builder come to Pawnee City

An unusual family reunion happened at the Pawnee Historical Buildings site this past Sunday. Relatives of James Gregg, the man who built the log cabin at the site gathered and many were meeting for the first time. This is an interview with Shannon Edward Kelly. He is one of the descendants..
