According to Mike Redmund of the Game and Parks Commission the department is always on the lookout for parcels of habitat.

There are eight Wildlife Management Areas in Pawnee County and adding more is always a possibility. He said currently acquisition budgets are very tight and much of the Commission’s acquisition allocated budget is used for the “Payment In Lieu of Tax” on our existing WMAs.

The eight current ones in the county total about 3,100 acres and range in size from 120 acres to 1,120 acres. Average size is about 385 acres.
