Another good wheat harvest

Don Bloss likes the smell of fresh cut wheat. Wheat farmers in Pawnee County are scarce; they seem to be part of a vanishing breed. There are only two or three farmers in Pawnee County who still grow wheat.

Statewide, the numbers for wheat are down. Farmers planted 1.09 million acres of hard red winter wheat last fall for harvest this year. That’s 20 percent less than 2015, according to statistics from the U.S., Department of Agriculture.
